Rise Up and Speak: Eliza R. Snow’s Life and Legacy introduces visitors to Eliza R. Snow, one of the most influential women in the early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Baptized in 1835, she later participated in the founding meeting of the Relief Society in 1842 and went on to play a central role in its development and leadership.
After crossing the plains as a pioneer, Eliza R. Snow was called as the Relief Society’s general president when the organization was reinstituted in Utah. She traveled widely throughout the intermountain West, teaching women about the gospel of Jesus Christ and strengthening faith and unity among her sisters.
The exhibit features her original letters, meeting minutes from gatherings where she spoke, photographs, and other rarely seen artifacts. Visitors also learn about her legacy as a gifted poet and hymn writer, including her beloved hymn “O My Father.” Together, these materials offer a personal look at a woman whose voice and leadership continue to influence faith and service today.
