Salt Lake Temple

The Salt Lake Temple is a place where people have found peace, hope, and joy in Jesus Christ since it was originally dedicated in 1853. Unlike church meetinghouses where weekly worship occurs, temples are sacred spaces where members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints draw closer to God through special ceremonies that focus on Him and His plan of happiness. The temple is also where families are united for eternity, offering hope that loved ones can be together forever.

The Salt Lake Temple rises 222 feet high, topped with a statue of the angel Moroni (a figure in the Book of Mormon) pointing heavenward. Intricate stone carvings, like stars, the sun, and phases of the moon remind us of God’s promise to guide His children back to Him through Jesus Christ.

Because the temple is considered a house of the Lord, once it is formally dedicated to Him, it is not open for public access. To enter, Church members bring a recommendation from their local ecclesiastical leaders indicating that they understand and are living the principles of their faith in everyday life. All are invited to walk the grounds and feel the peace of this holy place.
