The Salt Lake Assembly Hall sits on the southwest corner of Temple Square. Finished in 1882, this Gothic Revival building was built using stone from the same quarry as the Salt Lake Temple, linking the two buildings in both history and purpose.
The Assembly Hall served as a beautiful and richly decorated gathering place for Latter-day Saint congregations and community events. Murals on the ceiling highlighted important scenes from the history of the Church, and the woodwork was painted to resemble marble.
The Assembly Hall includes an impressive organ. Its 3,489 pipes fill the room with sound, while its case is adorned with symbols meaningful to Latter-day Saints, including beehives, wheat, and sego lilies.
